October 12 - Fota Wildlife Park

This Sunday we walked to the train station (a good 20 minute walk) to ride to Fota Wildlife Park. We had been told it was a great place to take kids - and we were so excited to visit it. It wasn't raining which made it even better... It was Adaline's first real train ride, and she woke up asking "where's the train? Where's the train?"

Unfortunately, the entrance by the train stop was right next to the playground inside the park... All we heard about for the three hours we were there was "can we go back to the playground? Where's the playground? When are we going back to the playground?" Oh my. We were about ready to cover her mouth with tape. :) Ha!
Adaline with flamingos - you can seem them better below.

There were little playgrounds all over the place - which led to more questions - "when are we going to the playground? Where's the playground? When can I play on the playground???" The animals just didn't measure up to the playground...

You can't see it - but there is a peacock somewhere along the left...
The lemurs were SO cute!

The great thing about Fota was that it was an open zoo - the animals had free reign and wandered all around the park. Here is Adaline with a llama.
The cheetahs, however, did not get to wander around the park. :)
Oh goody! Another playground!

When we asked Adaline what her favorite animal at the zoo was, she said the cheetah - then the giraffe - then the penguins. Judging her reactions, I would say giraffe, then penguin, then cheetah!
We had a great time at Fota and plan to go back when we have some free time. Taking the train was so easy (15 minute ride!), and the zoo was beautiful. Even Sharon would have enjoyed it - the animals were very happy. :) Bryan and I were fascinated with the animals and were slightly disappointed that Adaline was not more enthusiastic. Of course, part of it could have been because we were there during nap time. Oh well! Great day was had by all.
