Adaline's First Tailgate!

It took the Jordan family coming to Athens to get us to take Adaline down to her first Georgia football tailgate. Of course, we demonstrated our lack of knowledge of tailgating on North Campus - we chose the one parcel of land where no one else wanted to tailgate! :) Adaline and little Lawton enjoyed playing together - just before the Jordans started down to the game, Adaline apparently warmed up enough to give Lawton kisses and hugs. Too cute.

Karen (a good friend and one of Bryan's students) joined us, as did our visitor from Australia, Donna. Donna had never been to a major U.S. football game - she went to a Harvard game before coming to Athens to stay with us - but Harvard doesn't have quite the crowds we do. Karen and Donna stayed for the first three quarters of the game and had a good time - until they got back to where Karen had parked her car. As Adaline now says Karen was "sad" because her car had been "towed..." Hopefully our homecooked dinner cheered Karen up!
We had such a good time getting to catch up with Lawton, Jennifer, and Lawton IV Jordan. We keep encouraging them to consider moving to Athens - they are lots of fun to talk to and discuss politics with over a meal. We hope to get the kids together again soon.
Adaline is now saying "Go Dawgs!" without being prompted, which I love. The other day, she said "Aubie," which broke her dad's heart - Mimi got her an Auburn shirt with Aubie on it. To counteract that, Bryan has, of course, taught her to say "roll tide!" There's nothing like football in the south!

Making a Drum for Music Class...

As some of you helpful readers know, I had to make a barnyard-themed drum for Adaline's music class. The teacher provided some helpful instructions on how she wanted the drum made, but I waited until the last minute to make the drum (which brought back memories of studying for college tests...) - so it felt a little stressful. I just knew it wouldn't measure up to the other drums in the class. :) I used contac paper (per the teacher) and farm-related stickers on construction paper - a cookie tin was the base of the drum.
As you can see, Adaline could care less what the drum looked like - in fact, she prefers playing it upside down. We have practiced "quiet" and "loud," and she, of course, prefers "loud." She was a bit hyper in class this week - she just loves going to music class...

A weekend with Mimi and Poppa

This is a rare photo - hence it going first! Poppa smiling for a photo is a great treat! :) Bryan and I had the chance to go to Birmingham/Tuscaloosa for the Georgia v/s Alabama football game (yes - I sat in the middle of the Alabama section and behaved myself...), so Mimi and Poppa were happy to spend some time with Adaline.

They had a very busy Saturday with lots of fun activities, including a visit to the park. Mimi said there were lots of grandparents with grandchildren there that day - I guess there were lots of folks driving to Tuscaloosa! Adaline had a great time playing on the slide...

Apparently Adaline thought it might be fun to ride her tricycle backwards... Oh my!
On Sunday, Adaline learned the fun sport of walking on Poppa's feet. When I arrived, I took off my shoes, and she tried walking on my feet. :)
I think Adaline had a happier weekend than her Daddy since his team lost, but all in all it was a good weekend overall!

Happy Birthday Great Uncle John!

We had a wonderful time celebrating Great Uncle John's birthday at the Blue Willow Inn. Adaline could hardly imagine turning 60... :) She behaved pretty well for a two year old, but was a bit overstimulated by all the people - Daddy took her for a walk around the mansion's grounds...
The birthday boy was so excited to have us all sing to him after lunch... Here is his Birthday Cake with one candle.Amanda and I represented the cousins - Brian, Brenda, and Amy were all missed. We did our best to lower the average age at the table. :) More seriously, we were so glad to celebrate with John - especially since the event was a surprise to him! Happy Birthday, Unclde John!

Dress-up Time!

This is the latest picture of Adaline from school. They are exploring the world of dress-up, and apparently Adaline was playing a police officer during this photo shoot! I am particularly glad that she is now smiling like a real person for pictures as opposed to the cute grimace we used to see. :)

Adaline is using new words all the time - this morning when I changed her out of her bedtime clothes, she said "naked!" Monday night, she said "Mommy, more pizza please!" without being encouraged to say "Please!" She is still obsessed with her Elmo "Potty Time" video, but it has not encouraged her to use the potty lately... We are hopeful that will be coming soon.

Have a great week!

Fall is here!

I must admit that I stole this picture off Ella and Miles' blog site, but Bryan's computer is sooooo slow when I load pictures! :) Forgive my lack of updating again this week, please.

Friday night we went to Ilse's house for Bryan's lab party - in this shot are Emily and Karen (the adults) and all the kids but Ella playing. Adaline was a little bit shy, but was particularly excited when Ilse brought out a brand new bottle of "bub-bles!" for Adaline to play with - many, many thanks to Ilse for helping Adaline feel so welcome.

Adaline is talking up a storm - she uses new words every day, but we can't always determine what they mean. They are doing lots of "pretend play" at school, and her imagination is blossoming. When we say prayers at night, she brings up "Bill" and "Tina" - I am wondering if they are imaginary friends from playtime at school. :)

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Happy Labor Day!

We have had a great Labor Day weekend with Adaline - she was such a happy girl all weekend. This is from Friday - she has to put on sunscreen every day before school, and she now wants a banana to eat while Daddy puts on her "lo-tion."
After church on Sunday, Adaline was Mommy to her teddy bear that Ouida gave her - she loves "teddy" and wants him to sleep with her at night (along with Ducky, of course).
The weather was so nice this morning - we decided it would be fun to have breakfast on the patio...

The best part of the day for Adaline was when Daddy brought out her very own pool! I think we may be in trouble - all she wanted to do was "pool, pool, pool." I was with her in the den and caught her peeking out the window to make sure her pool was still there... She played for about an hour in the pool before getting bored! She made "soup" for Daddy and "cake" for Mommy. Very cute!

OK - so this picture isn't from this weekend, but I just downloaded it from our camera... Bryan lost a bet with some Auburn friends of ours - and I couldn't resist posting this picture. Many thanks to Andy and Esther for picking out such a great tshirt for Bryan to wear. :)
This is also a recently downloaded picture from Grammy's visit - and yes! Adaline is happy even though she looks a little strange - that is her "smile" for the camera. :)

Hope you had a great weekend too!

Game Day in Athens

Ok, no pictures because I am a slacker - but Adaline was so cute today! She had on a smocked red and black dress that Jill was kind enough to "hand down" from Callie. We went to a brunch at the Wilson's home, and Adaline was so well behaved for a two year old! Bryan and I heaped on the praise, hoping she would understand how proud we were of her. She has such a happy personality, and we feel blessed that she is so fun to be around.

This afternoon she "hosted" a tea party - her imagination is off and running. She gave us "cake" on our own plates with our own spoons.

Bryan and I gave away our tickets for the game and enjoyed watching the kick-off with Adaline. She was not very impressed, but she loved seeing Uga on tv - and she learned how to say "Go Dawgs!" She can also say her own version of "woof, woof, woof." And for you Bama fans out there, don't worry! Bryan is working on "Roll Tide Roll" with her. (Fortunately it is harder to say than Go Dawgs! Whew!)

Furman is winning at this point - Wyoming won already - Alabama and Georgia are both in the lead - should be a good night for us here in Athens. Hope it is equally as good for you wherever you are!
