We rented a car (I know, we are brave!) and drove to Kinsale, a beautiful town on the water... Our first stop (after several adventures with Alison driving...) was Desmond Castle. Here is Adaline on the steps before we went in "to look for Princesses!" And here Adaline is - inside her first castle!! Rick Steves once again had a great suggestion for lunch - Fishy Fishy! Our food was great, and we all enjoyed sitting outside in the sunshine. After lunch we walked into St. Multose church, which was beautiful. It is a protestant church, which is somewhat hard to find in Ireland... We ended our day by walking along the pier. We almost made it to a fort - but I didn't realize how close we were until we got home... Perhaps Bryan, Adaline and I will go back by bus one day. Adaline loved the water - she said that was her favorite part of the day! Tonight we ate in! Taco Man (aka Bryan) did a great job fixing us dinner - this is our dinner table for the next two months. :) We all fit around the table quite nicely, and we enjoyed eating a home cooked meal.... After dinner, Bryan and I took advantage of the car and babysitters - and we went to the grocey store!! Adaline was soooo tired - and she is so cute asleep in her bed right now.
Poor Bryan had to work on Friday - he started teaching his two classes on softball this week. We decided to take a double decker tour of Cork since that was something Bryan had already done. Adaline had a GREAT time on the bus. She thought it was such fun - and we saw some beautiful sites along the way. After the tour, we found a little bagel store that served lunch. We enjoyed people watching on the pedestrian-friendly walkway. Adaline didn't eat much lunch - and neither did Mimi and Poppa which ate a three course breakfast!! We returned to the park again today (surprise, surprise!) after Bryan got back from class. We found a great little dinner spot (Fenn's Quay) a few blocks from Bryan's office. They were very kind to us and the food was amazing. It is hard to see in this picture, but Adaline is putting on "lipstick" using Mimi's mirror - she even knows how to move her lips to make sure she gets lipstick all over. :)
After taking naps, Adaline and I felt much better - and we were so glad to spend time with Bryan after three weeks apart. He had bought some bubbles for Adaline to play with, so we spent some time in the sun on our front steps. After bubbles, Mimi and Poppa met us (they are two houses down! What great planning!), and we went to a great park that Bryan discovered. Adaline had great fun wearing out her daddy as she ran from activity to activity...
Adaline was a great travel buddy on the way to Ireland. Here we are in the Atlanta airport before our journey began... And here we are in Shannon Ireland a day later! She slept a little bit on the plane and was a real trouper during the entire trip. We took a bus from Athens, plane to Newark, plane to Shannon and 2 1/2 hour bus ride to Cork! Wow!
On the way out the door yesterday... And on the way out today! She is holding fruit juice snacks (which she thinks are sweet treats!) - I gave her snacks because she went poo-poo in the potty with no tears or hysterics. A great morning in the McCullick home! Yi-pee!
Adaline and I had a fun afternoon together Saturday, and here are some of the pictures. She wanted me to do her hair, and this is her checking out my work - what you can't really see is the flowery hair-bobs she had me put in. :) We had another hair session on Sunday with glittery balls (what a mess!), but she wouldn't let me take her picture...
I hope Pilvikki sees these next few shots. This is the darling doll she gave Adaline before she left. Adaline enjoyed making the doll dance in her crocs!
I asked Adaline to pose in her brand new tennis shoes so Daddy could see how tall she is getting, and she struck a pose. :) The great news is that these shoes will be perfect in Adaline - they are a little big, so she won't outgrow them (knock on wood...) while we are overseas.
I stole these pictures off of Susannah's mom's Facebook page... :) But Bryan was begging for more pictures, and this was the best I could do! These are from the Pump It Up party mentioned below.
If her hair looks wet to you, it's because it is! Adaline sweated profusely during her nap on Sunday - and all I could do was pull it back and hope it would stay up until we arrived at the birthday party. :) Adaline attended Susannah's third birthday at Pump It Up - and I think I was more tired than she was when all was said and done...
This is a picture of the hopscotch course Adaline and Poppa made. Adaline wrote all the numbers in - 1, II, III, and IIII. While she prefers the Roman Numberal way of writing numbers, it was still impressive! She isn't even three yet!
Before Daddy left, we took him and Uncle Stephen to Big City Bread for breakfast over Labor Day weekend. It is always yummy - and the weather was perfect for sitting outside. Here are some of the Adaline pictures from the morning...
For those of you that are unaware, Bryan is away in Ireland. He has settled in nicely and has reminded me that I need to update Adaline's website more often than I have been - so I will try. If you would like his mailing address, let me know - he would love to hear from you!
Adaline misses her daddy, so we are trying to keep her busy. We are trying to figure out how to get her to my office at a time when we can call him over the computer (if you don't have Skype, you should check it out!).
Think good thoughts for Bryan while he is across the ocean!
As has been previously announced on this blog, Adaline is 90% potty-trained! Yi-pee! The first day she went poo-poo in the potty, we had a huge celebration - and these are the pictures from that evening.
We asked her where she wanted to eat dinner, and Adaline wanted Chick-fil-a because they have ice cream. :) Here she is with Mommy with her ice cream spoon in hand...
We had been trying to coax her into poo-pooing for months with these beau-ti-ful purple high heel shoes, but to no avail. When we got home from school, Daddy unwrapped the shoes, and she paraded around in them with wobbly legs. :)
"OOOOHHHH!" is what she is saying here. The potty fairy came to visit our house after she went poo-poo and left Adaline all kinds of treats, including Dora and Ariel panties. She is also looking at her new Hello Kitty necklace and bracelet.
And here she is with her new ballet slippers on (thanks, potty fairy!). It was a fabulous celebration, one that Bryan and I won't soon forget. We have backtracked a bit with the poo-pooing (Mommy had to buy prune juice for Adaline to drink - and we will just leave the rest to your imagination) - but we seem to be learning the process... And no. The potty fairy does not visit every day... :)
Two weeks ago we had a most wonderful visit from our friend, Pilvikki, who is in the US for a few weeks. Bryan works with her through an international board he serves on, and we were so glad to have her visit us while away from her home in Finland. Adaline was quite drawn to Pilvikki - and thankfully Pilvikki has grandchildren and was not put off by Adaline's toddler behavior. :) We hope to take Adaline to Finland one day so we can all see Pilvikki again!
