Nearing the End of "be-be"-hood!

We received Adaline's last "infant room" newsletter - in August, she will be moved up to the Toddler room. We are so excited because two of her current teachers will be moving up with her - Ms. Elaine and Ms. Heather will spend another year teaching Adaline about our wonderful and interesting world.

Last night we made our weekly visit to our favorite neighborhood Mexican restaurant and ran into some friends, Matt, Kasay and Baby Mercer. Adaline was very good and used "nice touches" with little Mercer (who is darling!). Unfortunately, Adaline was not-so-good over dinner and hardly ate anything - she was more intent on getting out of her high chair and running around the restaurant. Oh well - the joys of toddlerhood!

First Cancer Auxiliary Meeting with Mommy!

I have to admit it was a big deal to me - I took Adaline to an Athens Area Cancer Auxiliary meeting yesterday afternoon for the first time. My "best friend" as a child was Dana Buck, whom I met through my mom's Cancer Auxiliary meetings - so there was something special about taking Adaline and giving her the opportunity to play with Patrick Rodrigue (who, by the way, was born two days before Adaline at the same hospital - and who's Mom also grew up at Cancer Auxiliary meetings!).

Even more exciting is that Adaline did great! She did clean out my purse at least four times (the last time was with Patrick's help!), but she didn't complain. The only time she cried was when we left. While I don't think I will take her to adult meetings a lot, it was still nice to know that she can handle 45 minutes in a somewhat quiet setting. :)

Adaline continues to say "on mo" which means "one more." She said "Will" yesterday, when her classmate by that name was leaving, and she will occassionally say "peas" instead of doing her sign language for "please." I dare say she knows about 50 words... Wow.

Easter in May

Thanks to Auntie Mary, we finally have Easter pictures to add to the blog! My camera wasn't working during Adaline's first-ever Easter Egg Hunt, so many thanks to Mary!

The egg hunt was at First Methodist's minister's home, and it was obvious that they had done several Easter egg hunts in the past! There was a spot for kids Adaline's age, a spot for 4 to 6 year olds, a spot for K-3 and a spot for 3rd-5th grades... We wondered if Adaline would know what to do with her basket, but as you can see, we had nothing to worry about! She had lots of fun.

Amen!

According to my dear husband, little Miss Adaline said "Amen" at the end of their prayer time this morning in the car before school. She loves to say prayers before we eat dinner - and apparently loves it before she starts school as well. How wonderful.

Every day she has a new word or two, which is such fun. Bryan isn't here to remind me of all her new words, but this morning she was in bed saying "no, no, no" with great vehemence! Fortunately she has yet to say "no, no, no" to Mommy or Daddy.

We also taught her to wave her finger back and forth at Harry the Cat when he jumps on the counter top. I can't wait for her to say "naughty, naughty kitty cat" as she waves that finger!

Adaline and Daddy are spending the day together on Monday since UGA is open for business on Memorial Day. We will try to add pictures this weekend.

Swimming - Take Two

Well, Adaline's second swimming lesson with Ms. Karen went much better than the first! It seems the problem was watching Daddy walk away - so this time, Karen and Adaline walked to the pool together sans Daddy! Today she learned "kick, kick, kick" and had lots of fun kicking and paddling. We hope she will be feeling confident by the time we go to the beach in July.

Adaline has learned to say "hi!" and yesterday she said "peas" - meaning "please" - instead of using her sign language. Every day brings at least one new word!

Girls Day!

Well, this isn't a picture from today, but I still don't have access to a digital camera! :) I am going to try to upload Easter pictures tomorrow.

Bryan went to the BellSouth golf tournament today, so Adaline and I had a girls day. The highlight was another try at swimming - and she did a great job! The water was a little cold at first, but we inched our way in, step by step. We went "swimming" to catch her ducks which kept floating away from us. Adaline even "paddled" with her hands when I reminded her. Hopefully Karen won't have a screaming child during the next swimming lesson.

All in all, we had a great girls day!

Adaline in Athens

Inspired by our family (Amy!) and friends (Ilse!), we are going to try to do a better job of updating the people we love about Adaline. She is into anything and everything these days, and we love her more and more each day...

Last night she said "read this" for the first time to Bryan. He was so excited that he let her stay up for one extra book.

Yesterday was her first swimming lesson, which didn't go so well. Adaline was a bit traumatized when Daddy left her in the cold pool with Ms. Karen - but we knew it would take a lesson or two to get her used to the water... Unfortunately we have no pictures because Mimi has the digital camera!
